July Update: Holding Patterns
When the weather isn’t right for writing
Hey everyone!
Summer usually brings the usual slowdown of travel and vacations, and we typically slow down at this time of year, too. But this year things are a little different. We’re in a holding pattern, but the weather is stormier than usual this time.

In this case, it’s significant family stuff that David’s been dealing with—things he doesn’t want to bring into this space. He wrote about it in his newsletter if you want the whole story.
To be honest, we’ve been feeling the storm for a while. For the longest time, we had our usual 7:30 AM meetings while Angie got ready for work, and we were writing, and making progress on Wolfe’s Blood. But then the writing stalled because David was dealing with things, and we’d talk about other stuff instead—movies, work, life choices, things we were struggling with in our minds, politics, the world situation. Then David started skipping meetings and eventually had to put it on pause altogether.
We haven’t had those morning conversations for weeks now, and it feels weird, but it’s also just the reality of the situation.
We keep getting questions at markets and meet-ups about when the book will be ready. We wish we had a definitive answer, but holding patterns don’t come with precise landing times. We can say that we’ll finish this story—it matters too much to both of us not to.
When David returns to Wolfe’s Blood, he wants to revisit it and take some time to get it right. Especially that brother-sister relationship—it’s important, maybe even more important than it was before. He wants to know that it works.
The writing has been good when we’ve had the focus for it, but we’ve been rushing and knew there was something a little off on the outside. David wants to return to the beginning and ensure it connects emotionally.
For now, we’re waiting for the conditions to be right, to resume those 7:30 AM meetings and get back to work. Until then, we’re just going to circle.
Until next time, happy reading!
