September 2025: Back to Work
Choosing How to Spend Our Time in the Light
Hey everyone!
September has arrived with its familiar rhythm of change—summer winding down, routines shifting, and the gentle pull back toward more focused work. But this September feels different for us, marked by deeper transitions and deliberate choices about how we spend our time.

Finding Light Through Change
Angie recently came across a poem from Blake Auden’s collection Tell the Birds She’s Gone that’s been resonating:
you cannot slow
the setting
of the sun.
you can only
choose
how to spend
your time
in the light
There’s something powerful about accepting what we can’t control while focusing on the choices we can make. For Angie, it’s about transitioning from summer’s freedom back to teaching while protecting energy for writing. As she puts it, “This time offers me a more organized schedule which is successfully conducive to productivity—after a slack and relaxing summer, I admit I need more of it.”
For David, the sentiment carries deeper weight. After navigating his sister Judy’s passing and the weeks of arrangements and estate work that followed, the quote speaks to fundamental questions about how to spend the time we have. You can read more about where David’s head is at in his personal newsletter, but the essential message is this: he’s making deliberate choices about prioritizing what matters most—family, travel, and yes, finishing Wolfe’s Blood.
Returning to Wolfe’s Blood
Wolfe’s Blood has been simmering patiently, and it’s time to get at it again.
For Angie, the seasonal shift feels like a blessing. She won’t be “teased by hot sunny days keeping me from work” anymore. As nature’s change gently nudges her inside, the satisfaction of sitting at the computer and creating stories becomes more appealing. She knows what needs to be done, and she’s ready for the blessings that come with this career of storytelling.
For David, the return means starting from the beginning—reading through everything written, revisiting Angie’s notes, and making sense of the story with fresh perspective. Having been away for so long means approaching it almost as a reader would, seeing connections that might have been invisible before.
There’s something fitting about returning to a story centered on family after experiencing profound family loss. This time, Wolfe’s Blood will be written with Judy in mind, and the family themes will likely register differently—perhaps more deeply.
Looking Ahead
As fall settles in, we’ll be returning to familiar rhythms that summer, sickness, and loss had disrupted. Our morning meetings will resume before Angie heads to school—those essential check-ins where we plan, problem-solve, and keep the collaborative momentum going.
The transition feels right for both of us. Summer was very different this year, but as the school year starts, we’re both ready to make the shift back to focused writing. There’s something satisfying about falling back into the patterns that have served us well over the years.
We have a market planned for November, and we’re hopeful that by then we’ll be far enough along in Wolfe’s Blood (or maybe even finished 🤞) that we can tell our readers they’ll get to read Tony and Charlie’s final adventure soon.
What’s Next
We’re moving forward with intention rather than timelines. The work will unfold as it needs to, guided by the choices we’re making about how to spend our time in the light.
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate both the creative process and life’s unexpected turns.
