October 2026: Same routine, different locations
Our morning meetings have returned
Long ago, when we first started writing together, we'd work in the same room.
We'd sit upstairs in Angie's house. She'd hang out on the couch at the computer while David paced, walking through each scene to see how it moved and how the story flowed from beginning to end. We established much of how we work and build stories back then.
Sure, we don't meet in person as often, and the tools have changed, but we still feel the same energy when we get together.

The meetings are back—just not in person
While David worked on the back half of the book, we didn’t meet that often. He was rebuilding his writing routine after the past few years, and when he hit a roadblock, he usually tried to solve it before bringing it to Angie.
But now that we're editing, he reached out and asked if we could start meeting again.
Angie feels those meetings are important. Meeting regularly helps make writing feel like a real job. And of course, she really vibes with schedules. Probably the whole teacher’s-lives-are-a-schedule thing.
So now we meet every weekday at 7 am, and the book moves forward because of it. We've got to do about two chapters a day to finish our pass by the end of the year so Heather can start her edit and get it ready for all of you.
New tools for an old partnership
Back in the day, David would always suggest we try this collaborative writing tool or that one. He’d say he believed it would help, but we both know he also just liked trying out the latest toy.
Angie was always hesitant. Each tool meant something new to learn—and the possibility of plenty of technical bumps along the way.
But as he’s gotten older, David has learned not to stress his writing partner out. These days, when he brings her a new app, he does it to make our working lives less complicated.
This time, the app was Craft, and David suggested it for a practical reason: he had been wrestling with syncing issues in our cloud folder and worried we’d end up editing separate versions of the same file. Google Docs is good for collaboration, but in our experience, it can slow down as documents grow. Rather than risk it, we decided to try something new. The meetings keep us synced; the app keeps our files synced.
Setting up the app came with an unexpected bonus. Angie wasn’t entirely comfortable doing it on her own, so David popped over one Saturday morning to help. It was easier than explaining everything over FaceTime.
The visit was a lovely throwback to our old writing sessions. And who knows? She may end up using Craft on her own.
Taking it on stage
One more way we’re working together this month: near the end of October, we’ll take the stage for a live conversation at the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild Conference in Regina. The session is for attendees only, so it isn’t open to the general public, but we hope to share how we collaborate and create our books.
The current plan is to have Angie in the chair and David pacing and talking through ideas. Same routine, new room—just an audience this time.
We think it'll be fun.
Thanks for reading, and thank you for everything.
