June 2026: The Arts Festival and Down to Work
Good things come to those who wait—and wait, and wait...
We had the Arts Festival this past month, and it was nice to be there. The weather was beautiful, the crowds were great, and as always, it was great to see all the familiar faces and sell some books.

Angie used to wake up through the night worrying about sleeping in, only to be up way too early out of nerves. But this year she felt calmer. Experienced. Eight years will do that.
It was a relaxing day. We were on the sunny side of the street, which made the tent warmer but not unbearable. As well, David's kids helped with setup and takedown, and delivered food, so we were happy.
When we first started doing this, we had one book on the table. Now it’s full—the Shepherd and Wolfe series and Angie's solo book, My List, My Rules: the year a checklist changed my life.
But is there room for one more? Perhaps a final book in the series like Wolfe's Blood? Of course there is, and by next year's festival we hope to see it alongside the rest of our series.
As always, Along Comes a Wolfe did very well. We're still surprised when people haven't heard of the series yet—we feel like we're always talking about it. But we're happy people are still discovering it, and hopefully they'll continue reading the series.
The festival extended the street fair by an hour, and at closing time the street was still full of patrons and wanderers—but it was time to call it a day.
David will admit he was feeling it by the end. In his defence, he'd been out the night before—and standing on the gentle slope of 13th Avenue for almost nine hours can be exhausting. Angie noticed he sat in his lawn chair more than usual—he must not be the spring chicken he once was.
But it was nice to have people come by and visit. We always get to say hello to a lot of people, get a few hugs, meet new readers, and reconnect with familiar faces we haven't seen in ages. That's really what the day is about.
But a day like that doesn't come without expectations.
The biggest question
Of all the questions we were asked at the street fair, there was one we heard again and again: Where is Book 5?
And the answer we told everyone (knock on wood): we plan to have it in your hands around Christmas.
David's back into the swing of things and feeling the pressure. He feels the heat from readers wanting to see the end, and from himself—probably his biggest critic. And if he's feeling anything from Angie, that's in his own head—she believes things happen in their time and has never felt she's nagged.
But he’s past the 75% mark and starting the final section in early June. Hopefully by the time the next newsletter comes around, we'll have even better news to share (wink, wink). But only time—and the writing gods—will tell.
Until next time, keep reading.
